The regulation length for an American football field, including both end zones, is 360 feet, or 120 yards. This consists of two primary sections: the main playing area, which is 100 yards long, and the two end zones at each end, each measuring 10 yards in length. The width of the field is uniformly set at 160 feet, or 53 1/3 yards.

In terms of measurements, the field is marked out every 5 yards by a line that spans its width, and these lines are numbered every 10 yards in increments from one end zone to the other, beginning at the zero line (goal line) stretching to the 50-yard line at the center, and then descending in a mirrored fashion back down to the opposite zero line. These lines assist players, referees, and spectators in understanding the progression of play and positioning of the ball.
