FAU Football History and Growth
Florida Atlantic’s football program started relatively late compared to other collegiate teams, but it did so with remarkable ambition. Under the guidance of legendary coach Howard Schnellenberger, the Owls took their first snaps in 2001. Schnellenberger’s vision and experience brought early successes to the team, culminating in their first bowl appearance in 2007 and subsequent win in the New Orleans Bowl.
